Wood Garlic Picking

Rezi is a lovely small village on the far side of lake Balaton with hills and woods.People mostly visit in the spring and climb the steep slopes to pick wood garlic. Haven't been over here since we left for Ireland and even we are back for 3 years now we haven't been visiting for some reason. I think we needed this. We needed the distance as seeing a place after years makes it much more beautiful than how you remembered it.
These hills, so gorgeous that they take your breath away with high trees and green woodland full of flowers.

Wood garlic covers the ground like a sea of green.

On the top the views are wast with a panoramic view to the country side just gorgeous it is like a huge green patchwork quilt as far as you can see, with patches of small lakes volcanic hills and the Balaton.

Rezi woodlands

We picked a lot of garlic also some we taken home for planting in the garden. The rest I used for pesto which keeps for a long time in jars. There are so many ways of use pickle the roots, flowers or the berries with leaves.Pesto can be mixed with curd or yogurt or into anything sour.I also love it on meet as a marinade.
The taste is just like garlic with a bit of woodland scent so it mightn't everyone's cup of tea but worth a try.

My Bulb Babies

Two years back  got a beautiful book from my hubby. The book has a nice section about growing and keeping spring bulbs. I read it a few times and thought it will be easy-peasy to grow my own beauties in no time. According to the instructions I got some bulbs in October planted them and put them in a cold environment. As we live in a flat on the 3th floor that  meant the fridge :O)).I packed the pots  safely in plastics and put them in the bottom compartment. I took my babies out 1,5 week before Christmas hoping for the best, keeping all the timing right which was suggested. I actually wanted my bulbs in bloom for Christmas!!!Unfortunately all they did was grow leaves by then, a lot of leaves. No flowers at all. Later I found out that one part of the flowers I bought  are too young to be in bloom.:O((( I hope they will be blooming next year. The other bulbs are starting to have blooms this week. The first was a hyacinth in bluish-purple.I cannot stop adoring it.Although I am keeping my little garden in the garden I had to bring it in to the bedroom to enjoy the fragrance.I am overwhelmed that these came up so well.
Blue Hyacinth
The before years I gave the bulbs away to my parents and grannies to plant them in their garden, but this year hopefully all going right I will plant them in my own garden. The other lot I will keep in pots and hope that next year I will have them blooming at Christmas:O). I will keep you posted.

Spring at Last

After the weeks of hassle with my laptop, since having access to the wide world once again I've been meaning to catch up on blogging, but found so much else to be doing... with spring here finally! We had a nice trip down to my mom's too, where all the garden is in bloom.Such a lovely sight and the fragrance is unbelievable. I took some flowers with me so I can enjoy them in the flat for some days I cannot keep my nose off them.Sniffing all the time.
I bought some lovely fabrics over the weekend and cannot wait to get sewing, I will still have to finish our patchwork bed cozy (I hope it will be really soon).
I will also have to get started on my easter projects. I got some really good ideas from my mom and out of a magazine. We will have blue eggs and decorations this year. I will share that in the next post.

Springy Door Hanger

This is  a Spring hanger I made together with my brother. I think it turned out quite well. Hope you will like it too.

Springy Crafts

The other day we had some time with my brother to do some springy crafts. We bought all the crafty stuff  earlier in the week. There is quite a nice selection in the craft shops here but still there are quite a lot of ridiculously ugly kitsch which should be avoided.Anyway here is our centerpiece for our dining table.
